Rental FAQs

Building Details

What was this building used for historically?

Leijona was originally constructed as a jail, and linked by the tunnel in Unit 007 to the County Courthouse directly across the street. Jail operations moved several miles away in 1995, leaving this historic building abandoned. While the building was operational, it housed nearly 100 people in 93 cells at capacity. Now it has 33 boutique apartments that repurpose the building’s unique architecture for a modern use.

Why live at Leijona?

Unique units with great views, the building’s historic details, unparalleled location, and access to Duluth’s downtown resources and amenities make Leijona the best housing option in town!

Yes, Leijona has parking options for all residents:

  • We have limited open-air on-site parking for $70 per month, directly adjacent to the building.

  • Our parking can be month-to-month, so not built into a traditional lease term, giving you the flexibility to change your mind - a rare find!

Are pets allowed?

Yes! After you complete a third-party pet-screening application for each pet, your pet will receive a liability rating based on the type of animal, age, and other factors determining the potential likelihood of pet damages. Depending on this score, a refundable pet deposit of either $500 or $1000 per pet will be required, as well as pet rent of $25-$100/month per pet.

There is a two-pet maximum per unit.
